Boulder native Dr. Jean Israelson began college studying music; it didn't take long for her to discover that the health sciences were her true calling. The leap to graduate school in optometry was not a difficult one, due in part to the positive influence of her childhood optometrist. "I grew up very nearsighted," says Dr. Israelson. "It meant a lot to me that my optometrist had the ability to allow me to see not only trees, but individual leaves again."

Jean is a two-time honors graduate of Indiana University, both for her B.S. in biology and her Doctor of Optometry. In addition to other honors, she was awarded membership in the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society, a recognition reserved only for optometry's top graduates.

It was an easy decision for Jean to return to her native Boulder after graduation. In addition to being her hometown, Boulder remains the home of both Jean's parents, as well as those of her husband. Boulder's core values are well-reflected in Jean's activities; she logs dozens of days each winter at Mary Jane and is a veteran of the annual Ride the Rockies bike tour. Jean grew up running the Bolder Boulder road race and each summer enjoys camping and climbing Colorado's high peaks.

Dr. Israelson joined Envision Boulder in 2002 and loves her current work environment. "What I love most about this work is getting to know my patients. I have the joy of helping people to see their best - passing on the same gift given to me by my first optometrist. Vision impacts all facets of our daily lives."
