CRT

contactlens.jpg Imagine waking up from a restful night's sleep having the ability to see clearly without glasses or contact lenses. Now you can with Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT) – night-time vision correction that offers freedom from glasses and contacts all day without refractive surgery.

CRT is a specially designed therapeutic contact lens that gently reshapes the cornea while you sleep. Through intense research and clinical testing, CRT has been proven both safe and effective for patients of all ages when worn during sleeping hours, earning this therapy FDA approval for nighttime use. The result is great vision 24 hours a day without the lenses during waking hours. This procedure has been approved for nearsightedness and nearsightedness with astigmatism.

According to FDA approval for this procedure, eye care professionals must be certified to fit this special lens. At Envision Boulder, all of our doctors are certified and experienced in CRT and will be happy to help you decide whether this exciting new option in vision correction is right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions...

What is CRT?
CRT is a specially designed oxygen permeable therapeutic contact lens used to gently reshape the front of the eye or cornea while you sleep. The procedure is non-surgical and non-invasive. You remove the lenses when you awake and are able to go throughout the day without any other correction. While contact lens corneal reshaping is not a new concept, CRT is the one corneal reshaping modality with proven safety and efficacy and the first to earn FDA approval for night-time therapeutic vision improvement.

Is CRT permanent?
No. It's temporary. If you stop wearing the lenses your vision will gradually return to its original state.

Can everyone wear these special lenses?
Not everyone. This lens is designed for individuals with low to moderate levels of myopia(near- sightedness up to -6.00 diopters with or without astigmatism up to -1.75 diopters). There are no age restrictions for CRT. However, since there are variations in patient physiology and visual needs, the decision for CRT, at any age, can only be made after a thorough eye exam.

How long does it take to reach and maintain good vision throughout waking hours?
Most patients have rapid improvement in the first few days of treatment and achieve their optimum vision in 7 to 14 days.

What do I do to see adequately in the period of time between when I start CRT and when I achieve full treatment?
During this transitional period, you may insert your CRT lenses for part of the day or use temporary soft lenses.

Are there any risks involved with wearing CRT lenses?
There is a small risk involved when any contact lens is worn. There were no adverse events observed in the CRT FDA clinical studies.

Can I see with my CRT lenses?
Yes. One of the great features of the CRT lenses is you will be able to see clearly with your lenses on and off.

How often will I have to replace my CRT lenses?
Generally speaking the CRT lenses will have to be replaced yearly.
